Silentium's AcoustiRACK ACTIVE is the only soundproof server rack to incorporate Active Noise Control (ANC) technology, and in this is different from the UCoustic Active and the AcoustiQuiet quiet racks.

What's ANC technology?
Sound is a pressure wave, which consists of a compression phase and a rarefaction phase. A noise-cancellation speaker emits a sound wave with the same amplitude but with inverted phase (also known as antiphase) to the original sound. The waves combine to form a new wave, in a process called interference, and effectively cancel each other out - an effect which is called phase cancellation. Depending on the circumstances and the method used, the resulting soundwave may be so faint as to be inaudible to human ears. Noise control - why do you need it?

• Noise is measured in decibels (dBA) so when Silentium claims a 30dB(A) equipment noise reduction, this is the amount of noise being removed from the sound source (your server room or office).
• Claims such as 90% noise reduction are not very accurate. A soundproof (or sound dampening) enclosure is going to remove a specified amount of decibels from the surrounding area, according to how it was designed and manufactured.
