Overall it is a good product that gets the job done. But for the price I would have expected a more tool-less installation/design and not a flimsy plastic bar for cable management. The sliding in and out and locking function are spot on. It certainly gets the job done.

Q: Does the shelf have a latch? We need to be able to make sure it doesn't slide out under vibration.

A: Thank you so much for your interest in our sliding shelves, Gary! Unfortunately, the SS1920-V does not have a latching mechanism to prevent it from sliding out. Our SS1921 shelf (rackmountsolutions.net/sliding-shelf-1-985h-21d) does use detent in slides, meaning that you would need to push the shelf in in order to release it, if that could work. Alternatively, we've had several customers simply utilize a releasable cable tie to keep shelves in place, by running it through one of the perforations on the shelf as well as one of the rackmounting holes on the rack rail - not a perfect solution, but it can work if you are unable to locate a shelf with the specs you need that also has a latch. Q: What is the extension length of the shelf? I'm going to need to access the back of the components I place on this shelf periodically, and would like to be able to extend it enough to access the back of my components without shifting the components forward.

A: Thank you so much for your interest in our SS1920-V shelf, Brandon! The adjustable depth of 19"-28" indicates the range (rail spacing) that this shelf can be mounted at, whereas the usable depth is the actual depth of the shelf surface. So, you'll have 16.5" of actual shelf to use, but it can mount in a rack whose rails are spaced anywhere from 19 to 28 inches apart depthwise. If you need any other info, please let us know!
