Here’s what you need to know!
Rackmount Solutions is thrilled to serve our customers in Canada, and we want your ordering experience to be smooth, predictable, and frustration-free. Because of how shipping and customs work across the U.S.-Canada border, there are a few important details to understand before you place your order with us.
How to Place Your Order
Unfortunately, Canadian customers cannot complete orders directly through our website at this time; however, we gladly accept Canadian orders by phone at (800) 352-6631 or via email at sales@rackmountsolutions.net. Please reach out to our team and we can walk you through the process, answer any questions you may have, and ensure that your order gets shipped correctly.
Shipping & Customs Clearance
When we ship products into Canada, whether via a small parcel carrier like UPS or FedEx, or an LTL freight shipment, your order must go through the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) before it can be delivered.
For a shipment to clear customs, a customs broker (also sometimes referred to as a brokerage service) must prepare and submit the required documentation and apply duties and taxes on your shipment. That’s why:
- For LTL freight shipments, a customs broker will always be required because of the paperwork and regulatory process involved.
- For small parcel shipments with UPS specifically, UPS will typically act as the customs broker. However, please note that while UPS can clear the shipment, the related brokerage fees are not included in your calculated shipping rate; they are a separate fee that will be assessed to the receiver of the shipment separately and it will be assessed by UPS directly, not Rackmount Solutions.
Customs, Duties, Taxes & Brokerage Fees
When your order arrives in Canada, you (as the recipient) are responsible for paying all applicable:
- Customs duties
- Taxes (GST, provincial tax, HST, etc.)
- Brokerage or clearance fees
These charges are collected by the carrier at the time of delivery, so you’ll need to be prepared to cover them before the shipment will be released to you.
Unfortunately, Rackmount Solutions cannot calculate these charges ahead of time. Customs duties and taxes depend on the type of product, its value, and Canadian import rules, so there’s no way for us to predict them accurately. In general, many customers see charges equal to roughly 10%-35% of the declared value of the order, though your actual costs may vary.
UPS and similar carriers will invoice you directly for any duties and customs fees - plus any brokerage charges that they assess - at the time of delivery. We do not control these amounts, and we are not notified of them in advance.
